| Message from President |
We have been living in a time of economic uncertainty, the caution that people are exhibiting in their economic decisions is also felt in the area of giving. Across America giving is down about 9% this year.
One of the few exceptions is our Sioux Empire United Way! Our volunteers are aware of the economic challenges and that some of our givers will not be in a position to give this year. But that thought lasts about a nanosecond and then you say, "So, how can we still meet our goal of helping all the people in need this year?"
Your can-do attitude is just plain inspiring! Even though there are 1,500 less employees working in our community compared to October, 2008 we are still finding new givers; employee participation is up and people are increasing their gifts.
The reason we are successful is our volunteers. You have done such a wonderful job of communicating the needs and our desire to meet them, to take care of those in our community!

YWCA Sioux Falls
Volunteers Stacy Stahl, Amanda Scheuler, and Mary Galis took inspiration from a United Way short story written by Tom Roberts, "Their elevated outlook becomes contagious and spreads across the land creating a paradise." A paradise campaign was held, complete with a luau, hula hoop contest, grass skirts, leis, and more.
All employees had the opportunity to attend four different rallies, held at both YWCA locations. The campaign focused on participation and how every dollar helps, which pushed their campaign to $8,500, including 12 Heart Club members! More.

Name: Patrick Steele Company: Wells Fargo Financial Cards Volunteer Role: Chair of Diversity Community Impact Team and WFF Employee Campaign # Years UW Volunteer: 6
What do you enjoy about volunteering for SEUW?
I've volunteered in a couple of different ways with the SEUW. I've helped with the general business campaign as well as our internal WFF employee campaign, but it's been my involvement with the Community Impact division that I've enjoyed the most. We've got a group of strong volunteers with varied backgrounds that enable us to make what I feel are the best decisions on how we invest in the community. Our new initiative pairs volunteer mentors with homeless families. Can you share about a mentor that served as a role model for you?
I've had a couple of mentors in my professional roles that have helped me progress in my career, but the person that has had the greatest impact on my life is my wife, Jamie. She has such a big heart and her love and encouragement have been my greatest inspiration. Is there anything else you would like to share with other United Way supporters?
Thank you for all that you do! SEUW is a brilliantly run organization and we should all be proud of what we can accomplish. More

Have you thanked your employes for their support of United Way? Givers are more likely to become loyal United Way supporters if they are thanked for their pledge. And the holidays are a perfect time to do so!

- Include photos from United Way's site, or quotes from our Success Stories to personalize holiday/thank you cards.
- Hand out sugar cookies with a personalized note including a result from In Your Town.
